When was the last time you talked to your Roomba. Don't be shy. We all do it. Our little Roombas have become yet another member of our family. In fact we have three of them each with their own personality. Roor the tiger, Mooba the cow, and Spotty leopard. Sometimes it's Lucky the ladybug or Sunny the penguin. Oh, let's not forget FooFoo the WereRabbit. Too many to keep track of around here. A regular Roomba managery.

RoomBuddies continue to multiply and prosper. A RoomBud costume has been spotted in every state in the good ole US of A. As far away as Australia, Japan, and Pluto. Costumes for the iRobot Roomba are everywhere. The company started by kids, built by kids and run by kids is growing as we speak. Do not let your Roomba run around naked.

So of course after finishing the last Harry Potter book, we started thinking about how RoomBud covered Roombas are very much like house elves and if you were to give clothes (aka a RoomBud costume) to your Roomba, would it now be a free Roomba just like when Harry tricked the elder Malfoy in giving clothes to Dobby. This certainly could explain why our Roomba has decided to run out of rooms where it should be vacuuming. Oh well, when school starts, maybe we should write a compare and contrast the rules for iRobot Roomba vacuums and Harry Potter house elves.

RoomBud the rich and famous? So are imaginations are running wild. We have talked (emailed) with Daniel H. Wilson who wrote "How To Survive A Robot Uprising" and they are making a movie of the book. We think that a RoomBud should be in the movie chasing Mike Meyers. And we also had one of the guys who created the Sims buy a RoomBud costume. We asked him if a RoomBud could be in the next Sims game. One of the inventors of the TIVO has a RoomBud too. Wonder how a RoomBud would work a TIVO if it doesn't have fingers to press the remote control buttons.

People ask us how far away have the RoomBuddies roamed. Well, we have sold a RoomBud costume to Roomba customers in every state in the US. There are Lucky the Ladybugs in Alaska and Roombette La French Maids in Hawaii. We have sent RoomBud costumes to Australia, Japan, and numerous countries in Europe. I guess that makes us a global company. Pretty wild if you ask me.

So we decided to take the SLoomba out for a spin in the maze on the IBM Codestation sim in Second Life. Well the Roomba may do a great job vacuuming our rooms at our real life home and the SLoomba may do a great job vacuuming our rooms in Second Life, but the SLoomba will need a bit of work to navigate the maze. The first issue is battery life of the SLoomba. We have it only run for a few mintues which is not nearly enough time to get through the maze. We should also modify the wall following mechanism so that the SLoomba does not turn around after a while just like the Roomba does in RL. Minor adjustments.

We lost our Roomba today. Somehow the little critter went through one of the virtual walls and escaped out of the bedroom. Here Spotty! Come out come out wherever you are. It was just like hunting for our cat when Tiger decides to hide for a while. Well after a complete search of the upstairs, we found our little RoomBud hiding behind the toilet in the kid's bathroom and right next to the cat's litter box. Hmmm I wonder if Spotty Leopard was trying to use the litter box just like our cat? Never heard of a Roomba or RoomBud trying to do that but stranger things have happened.
